For years, women have been more involved with politics, law enforcement, military, sports and many more. However, us women have yet to receive the respect for what we do. many people, generally men, strongly believe that women should sell out their bodies to get more attention, but the women who literally shed blood and sweat everyday disagree with what they believe. the term "if men can do it, women can do it better," has made a difference in many different social concept such as WNBA, NWSL, Women's football league, advanced sports that are associated with the Olympics.
women who made a significant impact in women sports is Serena Williams. she earned the title "sportsperson of the year" when her record was 53-3 when winning her three out of four major tournaments. she is the first black female athlete since 1954 to receive an award like this and the top third solo athlete. However, with this title many believe it should have been labeled differently. I came across a conversation with my friends that she should have won the award stating "sportswoman of the year" only because if a male athlete would have won it would be titled as "sportsman of the year". In this case, in my eyes they played it safe and we shouldn't, time is going by fast and we still have yet to get everyone on board to realize that women alone is making a big difference in sports. Serena Williams even beat out the famous Stephen Curry who is the most valuable player for the NBA. A female tennis player has taken the title away from an NBA player, and in my opinion everyone should know that especially since she is the first black woman in this time to do so.
Earlier I have mentioned that people believe "women should sell out their bodies" to get more attention or even get the sport to be more popular. well in time, people have made a huge altercation with women and their athletic bodies and has focused more on that then their talent on the court or field. Winifer Fernandez is popular on YouTube for her "good looks and smoking body". at the time of the videos that was going viral, she was a 19 year old volleyball player from the Dominican Republic and for her to play on the international team is insane. Many people don't talk about how nasty (another term for good) Dominican volleyball players, and i know they are because i'm a volleyball player myself. we study how others play and see what type of talent they hold on the court and where they originate from. the videos of Winifer are mostly focused on her ass, and yes lets face it she has pretty nice looking ass, but her videos are mainly focused on that. clip after clip are all different angles of her ass while she digs for the ball. As a volleyball player, all I hear is "volleyball players have fat asses," or "love watching volleyball because of their shorts shorts". first of all they are not called shorts shorts, they are called spandex, and second of all most volleyball players have a normal size looking butt. Every time I ask my friends or random people on campus to come watch our games, their responses are "of course i love seeing some fat ass on the court," or "will you guys be wearing them shorts?" situations likes these I just want to scream in their face and say, volleyball is not about ass or the shorts!! Everyday during the season conversations like these always pops up and as a volleyball player, i question why cant they ever come and evaluate the skills not the physical appearance. It frustrates me as an athlete, that most people only focus on that rather seeing how good the player is or not. Volleyball is not the only sport that draws attention due to physical appearance, but the lingerie football league has been talk of the year when it first started.
Men crave to see women play in lingerie and that's what they got, the LFL (Legends football League) is women playing in lingerie with the protection of shoulder pads and helmet. Now I know in football you need a hell of a lot more protection then just pads and helmet. so why so little and why lingerie? women who play hard core football actually wear the uniforms and padding as the regular football players do, so why do they have to dress so different? For me, i see no reason to be completely naked on the field to play. Is it to get sponsored? is it to get more fans or get the league more publicity? who knows but in that sport, women shouldn't dress down and risk getting injuries due to having very little protection. About a month ago I came across an article stating that some of the women who do play for this league wishes for more clothing and protection. The reason for that is because they are prone to get more injuries everyday.

For example, the women's soccer league is doing great with their careers and they are not getting paid or sponsored the same as the men soccer team. I know a couple of soccer heads would rather see the men play then even it out and see the women play. their reasons are "they don't play like the men do" or "their game is boring then the men's because they don't do amazing plays." Reasons like these, no wonder female athletes aren't getting the same treatment. People still believe they are not capable on playing the game. so as an athlete, when will it stop and when will any female team be exposed for their talents and not just their bodies. Skills should always be the first to be looked at and not see to if our bodies screams out "hottie".
